Hum Bug!!!
This week I'm making party favor hats to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day at one of the nursing homes. I'll show you how this easy crafty candy holder can bring a smile out of anyone. Supplies include: Toilet paper roll, green material or felt, cardboard ( I use thin cereal or cracker boxes), hot glue, pen, gold tinsel pipe cleaners or any gold ribbon for the brim of hat, candy, and green shamrock confetti.
I'm using material for my project only because I have to make so many and felt cost a bit more than I would like to spend.
Start by cutting out strip of material that is a little wider then the roll so you can glue some to the inside of the tube to make a more finished piece. Cover and glue the roll.
When that is done cut tube in half so now you have made 2 hats. Next take an empty tube and trace a circle onto your cereal box. Cut out and glue to material. Cut that piece out so you now have material glued to your cardboard, this will be the top piece of your hat. Repeat the same but make it bigger for the brim. I used a small glass cup from the kitchen. At this point I used a green Sharpie pen and colored the edges of the cardboard. I guess I could have made a more finished piece by tucking the material all the way around the circle but....I have a bunch to make and running out of time.
Glue the bottom brim to your half tube. Glue your pipe cleaner around the brim and add shamrocks to your hat. The top circle: I cut a very small strip of felt and glued one end to the circle and the other to the inside of the toilet paper roll so now you can flip the lid without loosing it, a make shift hinge. Fill with candy in gold and green colors.
That's it. Hope you had fun at.
